Introducing a new iOS app, where users can "light a beacon" when they're feeling down and are looking for support.
While their beacon is active, users can note down their feelings, write about their day and generally track their mood. Other users can interact with active beacons and offer support or ask to chat.
Users can search for beacons from others struggling with similar issues. Imagine a homesick student lighting a beacon and seeing hundreds of nearby beacons from other lonely students.
After 24 hours, beacons go out and everything gets saved to the user's personal journal, including all the supportive interactions and notes they received from other users.
Beacon is available now on the UK app store.
Break Stigma: To dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health and create a space where everyone feels comfortable and safe discussing their struggles.
Honest Conversations: To design a platform for the moments you don't want to share on Instagram. To encourage discussions about the raw, unfiltered reality of life in an increasingly isolated world.
Community: To build a community where, at just the touch of a button, anyone can light a beacon and receive immediate support from their peers. A place where they can see that they are not alone.
beacon was founded in Summer 2024 by London lawyer Luke Forryan, inspired by his late brother James' battle with depression.
His mission is to create a space where nobody has to struggle in silence, where everyone can find the support they need.
